Categories

Categories sort your transactions by what they were for: groceries, fuel, travel. Corte puts each transaction in a category by looking at the merchant’s name. To open them, tap Settings, then Categories.

Corte gives you twelve to start: Groceries, Dining, Fuel, Travel, Health, Entertainment, Utilities, Shopping, Transport, Fitness, Education and Software, each with keywords in English and Spanish. If you used Corte before Shopping, Transport, Fitness, Education and Software existed, they were added to your list. A category you had already made with one of those names stays yours, and a standard one you deleted doesn’t come back. They are yours: you can rename them, change their keywords or delete them. A transaction that matches none has no category, and shows as Other.

The list shows the categories you made first, under Yours, then the standard ones under Standard, with how many keywords each has.

Each category has keywords: words from a merchant’s name. When a statement arrives, a transaction whose merchant contains one of a category’s keywords goes in that category. Capitals, accents and extra spaces don’t matter: “ESTACIÓN Sol” matches the keyword “estacion sol”.

When more than one category matches, the best match wins: first a keyword that matches the whole name, then one that matches its start, then one that matches anywhere. After that, your own keywords beat the standard ones, and the longest keyword wins.

Corte also knows the names of many stores and services in Latin America and the US, such as Riba Smith, Terpel or Amazon, and puts them in the matching standard category. They work like keywords you don’t see: they aren’t in the category’s list or its keyword count, they stay with a standard category you rename, and they stop if you delete it. Your own keywords always win over them.

A category you chose for a transaction is never changed by a keyword.

  1. On Categories, tap Add category, or tap a category to change it.
  2. Type a Name. Two categories can’t have the same name.
  3. Under Keywords, tap + Add, type a word from the merchant’s name and tap Add. The field stays open to add another. To remove a keyword, tap the × on it.
  4. Tap Save category.

If past transactions would move into the category because of its keywords, Corte asks “Apply to past transactions? 12 past transactions would move here.” Choose Move them to move them, or Not now. Transactions you categorized yourself stay where you put them.

A private category keeps some spending out of sight, for example gifts or a doctor, while it still counts. Its transactions are in every total, in your card’s balance and in Spent since cutoff, and its keywords work like any other’s. What changes is what the app shows:

  • In the transaction lists and on a transaction, the merchant is replaced by the category’s Label, and the category isn’t named under it.
  • In Spent since cutoff, the category’s bar shows the label instead of its name.
  • Searching finds these transactions by the label, not by the merchant.

To make a category private:

  1. Open it from Categories.
  2. Turn on Private.
  3. Optionally type a Label, such as “Personal”. Leave it empty to show Private.
  4. Tap Save category.

The list of categories shows Private next to its keyword count. To show the merchants again, turn Private off, or move a transaction to another category.

Open the transaction (see Transactions) and pick a Category. Turn on Always put Pedido Rápido in Food delivery to add the merchant’s name as a keyword, so new transactions from it go there on their own.

A transaction with no category can show Suggestions under the category chips: up to three categories, each with a Use button and the reason it’s there:

  • Like 2 of your charges: you put charges from a similar merchant in it, for example other Riba Smith branches.
  • Matches a keyword or a known store: one of its keywords, or a store Corte knows, matches the merchant.

On a supported iPhone or iPad, the device itself can add a suggestion from the merchant’s name. Nothing is sent anywhere for it.

  1. Open a transaction that has no category.
  2. Tap Use next to a suggestion to pick it, or pick another Category.
  3. Optionally turn on Always put … in …, then tap Save changes.

Nothing changes until you save. A transaction in a private category gets no suggestions, and a private category is never suggested.

Open it and tap Delete category. Corte asks first: its transactions go back to having no category. This can’t be undone.

On a card, Spent since cutoff adds up the card’s charges since its last cutoff, by category. A credit takes away from what you spent, and payments never count. Corte shows up to four categories, and folds the smallest, with transactions that have no category, into Other. Tap Last statement to see the cycle before.

The amounts only include transactions Corte has read from your statements.

Where can I see the real merchant of a private transaction? Not in the app. Your exports (Data and export) have every transaction with its real merchant and category, and so does an AI assistant you connected with an access token.

Does a private category change my totals? No. Only what the app shows changes.

Why don’t I see suggestions? Corte suggests a category when it has a reason: charges you sorted from a similar merchant, or a keyword or known store that matches. The device’s own suggestion needs a supported iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on, and isn’t available on Android yet.
